REPLAN, the Paulínia Refinery, is Petrobras' largest oil processing refinery in Brazil. Its production reaches 415 barrels of oil per day and accounts for 20% of all oil refining in the country. Inaugurated in 1972, the refinery has a total area of ​​9,1 km² and serves a large part of Brazil.

A site of such importance to the country requires that its maintenance shutdowns be carried out by reliable partners who possess the equipment, design, and highly skilled team for a highly productive and well-executed job. For this reason, REPLAN contracted ROHR to achieve these objectives.

What solution was found?

ROHR proposed assertive and efficient actions to REPLAN for the maintenance shutdown of Torch II of unit U-730A. The use of in-house materials was designated, thus avoiding the manufacture of metal tie-down components that would depend on third-party manufacturing at a higher cost. The assembly of a tubular tower for anchoring the elevator system was carried out, which allowed for increased safety in the assembly of the elevator and the disembarkation accesses, ready at any height that might be needed.

In this way, ROHR combined economy, safety, and practicality throughout the project's development.

What materials are used in the tubular anchoring tower of the elevator?

The elevator tower is 125,00 m high and its assembly and anchoring utilized fitted tubing, aluminum planks, wooden planks, tower modules, and the operator's cabin, in addition to safety accessories for boarding/disembarking from the cabin.

What is the total quantity of materials used in the project?

• 6.000 ml fitted tube.
• 12,50 ml of aluminum plates.
• 45,00 ml of wooden planks.
• 83 pieces of elevator tower modules.
• 13 pc type IV anchor ties.
• 1 operator's cabin 15/30.

Was the expected productivity achieved throughout the process?

Yes. Despite the local challenges, we see this achievement when we realize that the following steps were completed in 23 days:

• Assembly of the tubular structure.
• Assembly of the elevator towers and operator's cabin.
• Installation of three platforms for boarding/disembarking from the cabin.
• Automation of the gates at the disembarkation platforms.
• Conducting mandatory tests by Petrobras.
• Technical handover to the customer.
