Successive balance, segment lifting, shoring and other ROHR solutions for bridge construction in Sergipe

Successive balance, segment lifting, shoring and other ROHR solutions for bridge construction in Sergipe

With experience in large engineering projects, ROHR participated in another infrastructure challenge, this time in the construction of the Jornalista Joel Silveira bridge, built by the Contern-Tardelli consortium from 2006 to 2009 over the Vaza Barris river, connecting the cities of Aracaju and Itaporanga d'Ajuda, in the state of Sergipe. Among the difficulties involved in this project was the need to span large distances of up to 80 meters in length, with the work having to be carried out over water and within a short timeframe.

In order to meet all the demands presented by the client, ROHR offered solutions that made all the difference in the execution of the project. To carry out the construction of the bridge, a structure with a total length of 1.080 meters, it was necessary to use various pieces of equipment from our portfolio. This included tubular steel scaffolding, along with the Kibloc multidirectional steel interlocking system; direct shoring with the ETEM tower system; ROHR HF and climbing formwork; as well as incremental launching and trusses for lifting precast segments.

The versatility of these products ensured faster work, since the initial solution adopted for the execution of the bridge spans only considered the incremental launching system, which meant a long time to complete each phase of the project, threatening the consortium's ability to meet the project delivery deadlines. After an analysis carried out by the structural engineer with other members of the project team and ROHR, it was possible to make it feasible to execute the bridge spans with the support equipment for lifting the precast segments.

Manufactured in a yard on the construction site, the segments were transported by barges to the lifting point. Initially, ROHR supplied the project with the incremental launching trusses, composed of T30 truss equipment, fitted tubes, tie rods, metal beams, FA formwork, and metal formwork and profiles. After the change made to the execution method, it was possible to reuse all the material from the incremental launching. We can affirm that by adopting the lifting of the segments, our client was very satisfied, since the work gained great speed and it was possible to meet all the deadlines of the schedule planned for the assembly of the structure.
