Successive balance – the technique that builds great results.

The incremental launching method is Brazilian! That's right. The technique originated in the country and has now spread worldwide, being used in various countries in the construction of bridges and viaducts, cable-stayed or not. The Emílio Baumgart Bridge over the Peixe River in Santa Catarina, designed by engineer Emílio Baumgart, was the first structure to use the incremental launching method, back in 1930. Twenty years later, the technique reached Germany. To this day, the use of the method continues in full force, incorporating contemporary technologies.

But what is the purpose of the incremental launching method? The method is perfectly suited to structures that do not have direct ground support and that have large spans. The structures are then constructed using segments, being concreted in stages from pillars and with the support of metal trusses.

The segments can vary from 3 m to 6 m in length, weigh from 100 to 200 tons, and can be cast in place or precast. Another advantage of incremental launching is that it allows work to proceed without stopping traffic. Safety and efficiency make incremental launching a technique ready to face challenges and provide practicality for everyone involved in the project.
