Curitiba's tallest building demands solutions to match.

Curitiba's tallest building demands solutions to match.

ROHR's cantilevered shoring system enables the structural execution of the city's tallest building.

The OÁS Barigui is establishing itself as a landmark in the Curitiba skyline. Standing 179 meters tall and spanning 50 floors, this building project presents significant technical challenges, especially during the most demanding structural phases of construction.

In this context, ROHR operates with Construction and Access Engineering solutions, developing customized systems to ensure structural performance, operational safety, and executive feasibility in the critical stages of the project.

The challenge: large cantilevers and high loads at a critical point in the structure.

The complexity of the project is concentrated on the 49th floor, which extends beyond the projection of the lower floors and houses a leisure area with high structural loads.

Among the main challenges of the project, the following stand out:

The client's challenge was to make this stage feasible with structural safety and executive reliability, without compromising the progress of the work.

  • Construction of a cantilever structure with significant overhang.
  • Presence of beams approximately 2 meters high.
  • High load demands on a critical pavement
  • The need for efficient redistribution of efforts within the structure.
  • Guaranteed stability and safety at great heights.

The ROHR solution: cantilevered shoring with high structural performance.

To meet the project requirements, ROHR developed a specific technical solution based on shoring supported by cantilevered metal profiles embedded in the slabs of floors 47 and 48.

With cantilevers of around 6 meters, the solution allowed for the safe support of the loads from the upper floor, even under high structural stresses.

Solution highlights:

  • Application of W530x85 and I 12″ metal profiles, dimensioned for high loads.
  • Capacity to support loads of up to 15 tons transmitted to the pavement 47
  • Reshoring of floors 48 to 44, promoting efficient redistribution of stresses.
  • Precise technical dimensioning, considering loads, geometries, and actual site conditions.

Furthermore, ROHR was involved in the execution of the foundation blocks, supplying HF metal formwork, which was essential to ensure robustness, geometric control, and efficiency in the concreting process.

Engineering applied in practice

One of the main distinguishing features of this project lies in the integration between conception, dimensioning, and on-site monitoring.

The solution was developed with careful analysis of the load requirements and the redistribution of stresses in the structure, while technical monitoring ensured its correct application on the construction site.

This coordinated effort between engineering and execution ensured technical consistency, operational safety, and adherence to project requirements, reinforcing the role of applied engineering in the feasibility of complex structures.

Results: stability, control, and safe progress of the work.

The solution adopted by ROHR was crucial in enabling the safe and structurally sound execution of the cantilevered floor.

The main results achieved were:

  • Safe execution of cantilever structures at great heights.
  • Efficient control of structural loads
  • Proper redistribution of stresses along the pavements.
  • Reducing structural risks during construction.
  • Continued progress of the project with technical reliability.
