Since 2004, ROHR has been investing in socio-cultural initiatives through resources incentivized by the Cultural Incentive Law (Lei Rouanet) or the Child and Adolescent Support Fund (FUNCAD). During this period, it has allocated more than R$ 600 to various projects spearheaded by the NGO Ação Comunitária, Associação Cultura Artística, Fundação Roberto Marinho, among others.

These initiatives align with ROHR's philosophy of supporting social and cultural development in Brazil. For example, the company is a regular contributor to the NGO Ação Comunitária, a non-profit organization that has been working for 40 years to integrate thousands of children, adolescents, and young people from the outskirts of São Paulo into society through social and educational programs that educate children from the age of three up to 21. Its executives, in turn, go further, dedicating part of their time and expertise as volunteers to the organization's management since its founding.

ROHR also contributes to APAE (Casa Branca), in addition to offering inclusion opportunities for people with special needs and former students of the organization, hiring them as labor for the ROHR manufacturing operation developed in the municipality of Casa Branca. Main projects supported by ROHR:

Projects supported by Rohr
  • Hurray! - Citizen Rugby Project

HURRA!, in partnership with the Municipal Department of Education, makes it possible to practice Rugby in the CEUs (Unified Educational Centers) during after-school hours.

The Citizen Rugby Project envisions that physical education teachers from the public school system, trained and supported by HURRA! staff, will introduce the sport and its values to children aged 04 to 18. In addition to this ongoing training and support process, students receive equipment, transportation, and participate in games and tournaments organized by the organization, where they receive full support from HURRA!.

  • Funfarme - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Project

The project aims to offer cancer patients treated by the Unified Health System (SUS) at the Cancer Institute (ICA-HB) the possibility of undergoing minimally invasive surgeries, with better technological resources, through the implementation of the Smart Operating Room.

Thus, it carries out the acquisition of medical-hospital equipment to replace the obsolete Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment, for the care of SUS (Brazilian Public Health System) patients.

In this way, it is possible to expand and improve the provision of complementary diagnostic services at ICA-HB, with a continuous focus on improving the quality of care. In addition to increasing the number of tests offered, this provides improvements in access and treatment for cancer patients, enabling timely diagnosis and contributing to increased disease-free survival rates.

  • Funfarme - Adopt a Bed Project

The "Adopt a Bed" project aims to ensure the sustainability of the Geriatrics and Palliative Care Unit at the Hospital de Base in São José do Rio Preto, benefiting thousands of elderly people in situations of social vulnerability and guaranteeing the capacity to offer specialized beds for their care.

This allows for the provision of suitable facilities, including equipment, furniture, infrastructure resources, materials, supplies, and highly qualified teams, with a human touch and specialized techniques to care for the elderly.

  • Cultural Change – Playing in the Park Project

The project is a children's and youth festival with playful and themed events in parks across three Brazilian capital cities. Rohr is one of the sponsors of this first edition, which will take place over three weekends, one in each city, totaling 24 art and education activities.

The meetings address important themes for the target audience's development, such as technology, sustainability, and education. The project seeks to inspire children, young people, and their companions to create an effective connection with art and culture through artistic and educational activities carried out in public spaces.

  • Sound, Rhythm and Movement Project

It carries out cultural activities in the areas of Music Education, Performing Arts, Dance, Sports Activities and Capoeira for more than 5.000 children, adolescents and young people in 22 organizations that are part of Ação Comunitária (Community Action).

It fulfills the role of bringing about significant change by implementing cultural and leisure activities for this audience, as well as encouraging parental participation and the involvement of the entire community.

Entirely funded with resources incentivized by the Federal Law for Cultural Incentives (Ministry of Culture), its 3rd edition took place in 2008 and, in addition to ROHR, was sponsored by the companies Abbott, Banco Itaú BBA, Banco Toyota, M. Cassab, Nadir Figueiredo, Promon, Serasa and Ultragaz.

ROHR has sponsored this program since its second edition in 2007, and has already confirmed its participation in the fourth edition, to be held in 2009.

  • Project Matizes

Visual arts as an agent of learning, cultural preservation, and inclusion. With this concept, the project aims to provide subsidies to social and cultural educators in the communities served by Ação Comunitária (Community Action) for the implementation of workshops with practical application of knowledge acquired in the Educator Training Project.

By transmitting knowledge of visual arts to children and adolescents in the Crê-Ser Program, the project enables cultural preservation and the production, in a public space, of a panel with ceramic tiles – a lasting symbol and landmark of the collective construction and cultural identity of the region.

It serves 1.792 children and adolescents aged 7 to 14 with activities conducted by 44 educators. Funded by incentives from the Child and Adolescent Support Fund – FUNCAD, of the City of São Paulo, ROHR is contributing to the 2nd edition to be held in 2009.

  • Project Me, You, Us: Untying the Knots of Society

Information and Communication Technologies as Agents of Learning and Social Inclusion - Registered with the Child and Adolescent Support Fund – FUNCAD, of the City of São Paulo, this project, carried out by Ação Comunitária, aims to contribute in an articulated way with 17 civil society organizations to the integral development of 1.680 children and adolescents aged 07 to 14, encouraging them to be protagonists of transformations in their stories and in their communities of origin through computer science, photography and the production of a community newspaper.

ROHR is listed as one of the donors to this project.

  • Book “Invisible Engineering”

Monuments, cathedrals, tunnels, viaducts, and skyscrapers form the visible and permanent face of engineering. It is so pervasive that society considers it part of the natural order of things. The millennia of effort, failed attempts, and achievements are often ignored. The invisible face of engineering faces an even greater challenge in gaining recognition.

From mathematical calculations to scaffolding, tools, and shoring, a universe of knowledge built only during the construction process is practically unknown outside academic or technical circles.

Written by Fernanda Passarelli Hamann with technical consulting from Professor Walter Pfeil, this book aims to tell the story of these practices and innovations, contextualized within the cycles of Brazilian development. It values both the technological solutions and their use at a specific point in the past or present. Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and ROHR through the Incentive Law for Culture, this multidisciplinary interaction between the history of engineering and that of Brazil is important to ensure the didacticism and interest of a work intended not only for partners and opinion leaders, but also for the general public.

  • Museum of Portuguese Language

The company is one of the supporters of this space which, since 2003, has provided the public with a unique experience in creating a dynamic for the celebration, understanding and use of the Portuguese language, bringing together in a single initiative the protection of two valuable Brazilian cultural heritages: the Luz Station and the Portuguese Language.

The first of these is one of the most significant architectural monuments in the country and one of the city's iconic landmarks. The project, budgeted at R$ 36 million, began in 2003 and is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Culture, IBM Brazil, Correios (Brazilian postal service), TV Globo, Petrobras, the São Paulo State Department of Education, Vivo, Votorantim, and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).

This event is organized by the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture and the Roberto Marinho Foundation, with support from the Federal Law for Cultural Incentives. It also has the support of the National Library Foundation, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), the Camões Institute, the São Paulo City Hall / Municipal Secretariat of Culture / Mário de Andrade Library, the Paulista Metropolitan Train Company (CPTM), the Federal Railway Network, and Rohr Tubular Structures.

Environmental Law
Environmental Law

Since its founding, ROHR has developed a series of actions to reduce the impact it may cause on the environment. Among these actions, the following stand out:

Timber – ROHR only buys certified timber and, for wood waste left over from office and construction renovations, maintains a contract with the company Reciclatec, which collects the material, transforming it into fuel for industrial boilers and furnaces. Reciclatec is a company that follows the entire 4Rs process:

1th: Reduce the production of waste and unnecessary objects. Reducing also means using more durable products, controlling the excessive use of water, electricity, gas, and ultimately, avoiding any kind of waste.

2th: Reuse what we make and avoid using "disposable materials" unless they are necessary to protect our health. In this way, we should reuse clothes and furniture, exchange, sell, and donate everything that is no longer useful to us but could be used by someone else.

3th: Recycling materials used to manufacture new products. For plastics, glass, metals, and paper to be recyclable, these materials need to be separated and in large quantities. That's why selective waste collection is so important.

4th: Rethinking our consumption habits and the consequences that rampant consumption generates on our planet: depletion of water and mineral reserves, pollution of water, air, and soil, as well as the exacerbation of social inequalities.

  • Non-organic waste ROHR maintains a partnership with a cooperative in Perus that collects, separates, and recycles all non-organic waste generated at the company's office and warehouse in São Paulo.

  • Batteries and cells – In the case of standard batteries and cells, they are stored in ROHR's own warehouse, and whenever the volume reaches 50 kg, they are sent to companies specializing in the disposal of this product. Batteries used in aerial work platforms are sent to companies specializing in the disposal of this product, which issue a certificate of the service performed;

  • seedling planting – But beyond these recycling initiatives and in order to further reduce its carbon footprint, ROHR is concerned about the environment in other areas. The company has already planted more than 10.000 peanut grass seedlings and another 2.000 native plant species as part of a reforestation project. In this way, it is preserving three hectares of Atlantic Forest, areas degraded by nature itself, in the area where the company's main warehouse currently operates in the Perus neighborhood of São Paulo.
